JCSC TRANSITION PROGRAMME

From September 2023:

DIGITAL

This qualification has been designed to inspire and enthuse learners to become technology savvy – producers of technology products and systems and not just consumers

● give learners the opportunity to gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries e.g. electronic publishing or multimedia production

● allow for a flexible choice of units to meet the needs of learners with different interests and inclinations by using different pathways

● give learners a more focused understanding of Information and Creative Technology through the selection of optional specialist units

● explore the fundamentals of technology and gain the practical skills, knowledge and understanding to design, make and review:

o information technology systems and products, e.g. a relational database
o creative technology products, e.g. a digital animation
o products that combine information technology and creative technology, e.g. a website

● encourage personal development, motivation and confidence, through practical participation and by giving learners responsibility for their own projects

● encourage learners to develop their people, communication, planning and team-working skills by having the opportunity to select from optional units available in the qualification structure

● give opportunities for learners to achieve a nationally recognised level 1 or level 2 qualification in Information and Creative Technology

● support progression into a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic course or into an apprenticeship

● give learners the potential opportunity to enter employment within a wide range of job roles across the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries, such as Software Engineer, Website Content Manager, Computer Animator and Graphic Designer.

EDUCATION AND EARLY YEARS

This qualification provides the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification that gives a basic introduction to the sector.

It includes the knowledge and understanding of child development and
well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. It also gives learners an insight into their preferred learning styles and assists in developing their ability to study.

This qualification will enable learners to develop significant transferable knowledge and study skills that will support progression including:

● an awareness of learning styles
● a basic introduction in to working with children in a variety of settings
● an understanding of roles and responsibilities when working in a setting
● an understanding of equality and diversity within a childcare setting
● a basic understanding of the stages and sequence of child development
● an introduction to observing children and how it supports development
● an introduction to the influences that affect holistic development
● an introduction to everyday care routines and the types of activities that can support the development of independence an introduction to supporting children through transition.

From September 2025, We plan to offer all of the above plus:

ENGLISH AND MATHS

Students who did not achieve English and/or maths GCSE grade 4 at Key Stage 4 are required to continue studying as per the condition of funding. Pearson offer:

GCSE English and maths
Entry, L1 and L2 Functional Skills in English and maths
Entry, L1 and L2 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Core Maths for students who have passed

Work preparation and employability skills

To develop the skills, behaviours, attitude, and confidence that will be needed for students to complete the T Level Industry Placement. This should include high quality work experience, and work preparation and employability skills development. Pearson offer:

Entry and L1 Essential Digital Skills

BTEC Work Skills

Pastoral support and personal development

This should complement the other components and be tailored to your student’s individual needs. You must dedicate sufficient time, with regular reviews of progress, to ensure barriers are not preventing progress in the other components.

Pastoral and development support should help your students address barriers to learning and support emotional and/or mental health difficulties. This could include:

activities to develop confidence and resilience
group work to develop communications skills
tutorials and seminars (including careers education)
life skills, such as: the ability to travel independently, personal finance.

Work Experience

You will gain some work experience linked to the subject you are studying to enhance your skills and experience to support your progress into further T Level study.
