Today was the JCSC Annual Careers Fair. Businesses, organisations, further education and apprenticeship providers have been in to the school to educate Years 8-13 about potential career pathways and opportunities.

Attendees spent the day hosting their own stalls and having the opportunity to interact with students and staff to build relationships with the school for future collaboration.

The fair was attended by Northumbria Healthcare, Northumberland County Council, Northumbria University, Northumberland College, AIM North East, Quotient Science, Enerpac, Newcastle Building Society, Raytheon NORSS. Additionally the British Army, RAF, Newcastle College, MSP, Ryder Architecture, BL Hairdressing and William Hacket LTD visited.

Catherine, from Northumberland County Council, explained “We are here to make all the students aware that they don’t have to go to university, they don’t have to stay on at school, they can start a career by doing an apprenticeship and working their way up.”

Claire, also from NCC, said “We are here to let them know what opportunities are available within the county council. We have advised that we do graduate schemes, work experience, apprenticeships and that there are also full time positions in many different job roles.”

The students got to try on some welding gear and even got to meet some fantastic reptiles…

Megan, from Northumberland College, explains “We are here to recruit students and to show all the different courses that we do. We have been promoting our Kirkley Hall campus today, which has our Kirkley Hall Zoo where you can study animal care.”

She continues, “It’s important for us, as a college, to attend careers fairs to promote the college as not everyone is aware of what we have to offer and to let students know about the wide variety of courses available to them. We are here to give the students guidance on what to do in the future, after their time at school ends.”

The day was fabulous. A huge thank you to those that came along and encouraged our students to Aim High! Your time is much appreciated and we hope to see you again next year.
