Innovative students at JCSC receive recognition

A group of students from James Calvert Spence College (JCSC) have won the ‘Most Innovative Project’ award for their work on an Industrial Cadet project supported by Alnwick based software company, MSP (www.mspltd.com).

The award was presented to the students at a ceremony held at Newcastle University and there was an opportunity prior to the awards for students from schools across the region to showcase what they have worked on for their projects and network with their peers.

For the project, the group of students designed an app to highlight zones in the local area where different types of anti-social behaviour are the most common. They embedded AI in their design which helps tackle anti-social behaviour and also aims to educate people on what constitutes anti-social behaviour.

JCSC Teacher, Mr Smith said: “We are so proud of Courtney, Olivia, Sadie, Jack, Mason and Lennon for their work throughout this project. They have shown excellent work ethic and creativity. The judges commented that by interviewing the local police force for their insight in developing their project, it showed their ability to think outside the box. Well done to all of the team and a special thanks to MSP who have been supportive and informative throughout our sessions with them.”

Senior Software Developer at MSP, Alex Penrose, who is an ex-student from JCSC said: “Working with this team has been a privilege. They have worked hard throughout the project and thoroughly deserve their award. I look forward to supporting the motivated teachers at James Calvert Spence College and their students on more projects in the future!”
