Immersive show of the night sky from our school gym!

Staff and pupils were very excited to host Kielder Observatory today, who brought their inflatable planetarium dome to run an immersive show of the night sky.

The workshop was delivered by Dan Monk, Director of Astro Photography and Adam Shore, Science Communication and Education Outreach, from Kielder Observatory who are part of a team that frequently deliver interactive content on our solar system and star constellations, for free to schools across the region.

Mrs Pringle, Science Teacher, at James Calvert Spence College, who organised the visit, said: “The planetarium was a big hit at school today, with both staff and pupils really engaged and the feedback extremely positive. Thanks to Dan and Adam for bringing the universe alive for our students!”

Students from Year 6 were excited to share their thoughts on the experience; Daniel said: “It was very fascinating to see all the star constellations!” Ayton said: “Loved it when we zoomed around Jupiter!” Phoebe said: “It was great when we spun around really fast to show us that the North star just stays in one place!” Elsie said: “It was magical seeing all the animals that the stars represent!”
