1. Overall subject intent
In the geography department at JCSC we engender a spirit of curiosity about the world and the variety of environments, cultures and events which we see on a daily basis. We provide students the tools to question and challenge the preconceived ideas that exist about the world’s diverse population, to enable them to form their own opinions about a wide range of contemporary issues.
We aim to develop skilled geographers who can make use of a wide range of data to formulate and investigate questions about issues which impact on them locally, nationally and globally. We want our students to think, talk and write confidently about the world around them.
2. Are there annual events that take place within the subject or do you do something different that makes your subject stand out?. –
GCSE and A level students are involved in fieldwork elements which are required by the exam board. Our GCSE students visit Newcastle City Centre and Quayside and Newbiggin by the Sea and our A level students complete a day of fieldwork at a number of sites on the Northumberland coast as well as a day in and around Newcastle City Centre.
3. Special in-school facilities (labs, library with librarian, instruments, design/tech equipment etc)
No
4. Any careers and stakeholder involvement in curriculum planning and delivery e.g. visits from authors, to universities, from industry, community projects (identify the year group if applicable)
no
4. Extracurricular activities linked to the subject offered both at lunchtime and after school, this could also include regular residential trips/field work.
As above
5. Highlight any apps/ or resources that students will use
We recommend the use of an online revision resource called Seneca Learning which has a full programme of knowledge based revision activities designed for our specification
