James Calvert Spence College is a 9-19 through school, catering for students from Year 5 to Year 13
that is the heart of its community.
JCSC and our maths department have improved considerably over the last few years and we are
determined to secure future improvement by recruiting enthusiastic, high quality staffing for this key
area of the curriculum.
The pupils and staff are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual who wants to work as part of
a team to drive learning forward. This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to join
a very experienced team of maths specialists and contribute to the further success of this subject
area.
We need someone who is passionate about learning and ensuring all children reach their full
potential, to assist in ensuring the ongoing success of this key area of the curriculum.
The post would suit an experienced teacher or a new entrant to the profession – we pride ourselves
in excellent training for ECT colleagues and a supportive department and leadership team to enhance
and further develop the skills of teachers looking for a new challenge in a dynamic environment.
Due to the wide age range of our students, this post would be equally suitable for secondary or
primary teachers with experience or a specialism in mathematics. We would be able to offer teaching
from KS2 to sixth form to best suit the successful candidate.
JCSC has improved considerably over the last few years with excellent A-level results and rapidly
rising GCSE outcomes.
This is an exciting time to join us as we continue our journey towards excellence. Staff and
governors are fully committed to promoting equal opportunity and an outstanding educational
experience for all students.
You will:
• Be a strong classroom practitioner with excellent maths skills, keen to develop your own skills
further;
• Be a positive role model;
• Have high expectations of yourself and others;
• Be a real team player and someone with a ‘can do’ attitude;
•Be passionate about improving the life chances of our students.
We can offer you:
• Excellent opportunities for professional development whatever your career prospects;
• Hardworking and well behaved pupils who are willing to learn;
• A friendly and supportive working environment with a dedicated staff team;
• A unique insight into progression from the heart of primary to the point of employment or
higher education
Should you wish to informally discuss these positions further, please contact Mrs Louisa Hedley via

Learning Support Partner
Permanent
32.5 hours per week (term time plus 5 days), permanent
Band 3: £17,810 – £18,108
Be Kind. Work Hard. Aim High
As a result of specific learning needs identified within pupil cohorts, we require additional Learning
Support Partners (LSPs) to join our friendly and supportive Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
(SEND) team to start as soon as possible.
Main duties include working in classrooms to support individual, or small groups of pupils in reaching
their specific social, emotional or academic targets.
Often referred to as Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, at JCSC we recognise the vital
and valued work undertaken, and have named the role ‘Learning Support Partner’, which we believe
more accurately reflects the direct impact your work will have on our pupils, their learning and their
futures.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently with individuals, small groups or within a
whole class as required; have the ability to use initiative and apply effective problem-solving skills; be
able to work as a member of a team; and sensitively understand the needs of pupils and their
families.
Typical work includes:
· 1 to 1 or small group support for pupils in class
· Delivery of intervention programmes to individual pupils or small groups
· Supporting with setting and reviewing targets and updating pupil passports
In return, this rewarding position offers good prospects for in-school development and progression –
former LSPs have moved on to Pastoral Support Officer and Assistant SENCO roles within JCSC – and
also offers practical experience for anyone considering a career in teaching. Our LSPs benefit from
participation in weekly staff CPD alongside teaching staff and benefit from the guidance of the
county’s lead SENCO, who also happens to be Head of School and SENCO here at JCSC. Training is
provided on a range of SEND and whole school related topics such as safeguarding and literacy, as
well as specific SEND needs.
Experience working within education is welcome but not essential – it is more important that you are
an empathetic individual who is passionate about education and helping pupils to overcome barriers
to learning. If you can support, motivate and inspire our pupils to get the most out of their time at
JCSC, we want to hear from you!
Our Learning Support Partners typically work 32.5 hours equally spread evenly over 5 days with some
after school time on Mondays to accommodate continual professional development time. However,
we will also consider applications from candidates who wish to job share or work reduced hours.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is
essential that all staff and volunteers share this commitment. You can view our policy for
Safeguarding and Child protection here. An enhanced criminal records check from the Disclosure
and Barring Service is required for all posts.
Further details about the school and vacancy can be obtained from www.jcsc.co.uk or by emailing
