A group of Year 9 JCSC have been working on a STEM project as part of the Industrial Cadets programme.
Ben, Phoenix, Isla, Ava, Scarlet and Chanel have been working really hard in the past few months, both in school and in the workplace. The project they worked on was “Health and Technology”.
The group investigated the use of artificial intelligence to help support young people with their mental health and wellbeing.
With the guidance of Mr Smith and Mr Armstrong, the children have been working with MSP in Alnwick to support them in creating an app to support young people. They worked with former JCSC student Alex Penrose, so a huge thank you to him for his time, encouragement and support.
The team also carried out research into local youth clubs, to investigate how the app could be used to help people overcome the barriers around attending a youth club for the first time.
Along with many schools from North East, our students attended Newcastle University for the awards event. They presented their project in front of the other schools.
Our team won the ‘Teamwork Award’. A huge congratulations to them!
The award was assessed and awarded by a team of industry experts.
Mr Smith said “It was brilliant to see the students organise themselves into their different team roles and be so independent which was also recognised by the assessment panel. I’m very proud of the students and their achievements.”
