Year 12 Chemistry and Applied Science students spent a day at Newcastle University this week, benefitting from the excellent science facilities on campus.
Teacher of Science, Ms Pringle said: “In the morning we participated in University style lecture and tutorial sessions. They spent the afternoon in the labs preparing an ester and had the chance to use an infra-red spectroscopy machine.
Student, Will said it was a ‘cracking day!’ and was delighted with himself that his group produced a compound that was a 99.91% match to the desired ester 3-methylbutyl ethanoate.”
