Two budding entrepreneurs from James Calvert Spence College, are taking on the Tycoon Enterprise Competition with their design and print business, ‘Poster People.’
Shaun (year 8) and Calvin (year 7) have entered the Tycoon Enterprise Competition; a national competition established by the Peter Jones Foundation that encourages students aged 6 – 18 to develop their business skills. Those interested apply to the foundation by writing a business plan, which if approved is loaned money to start a business and then the business will compete with other student companies from across the country.
Second in Vocational teaching at JCSC, Chris O’Neil explains: “Shaun and Calvin created an impressive business plan for their business, ‘Poster People,’ which the team at Tycoon Enterprise Competition praised highly. The competition aspect of the business runs from last October to the end of this January, however Shaun and Calvin are keen to carry on with the business and provide their services to the wider Amble community.”
When asked what the inspiration behind the business was, Shaun explained: “I love using computer design software and being creative. Calvin is great at coming up with ideas and gathers a lot of inspiring suggestions of designs we could recreate to make our own. A design and print business seemed the perfect idea for our skills and interests.”
Calvin continues, “We like creating colourful and bold designs that catch the eye but are happy to work on any ideas. We can design anything from invitations, posters, flyers and either print them for our customers or email an electronic design.”
If you have a design or print need and would like to use the ‘Poster People’ services, please email teacher Chris O’Neil with your specification and contact details: coneil01@jcsc.co.uk.
