Kielder Observatory brought the inspiration of the nights sky to our school community last night for an evening of stargazing.
Pupils and their families/parents/carers were invited to attend this free event of content delivered by science communicators from the observatory which included: inflatable planetarium with immersive shows and outdoor telescopes for night sky observing. Visitors were amazed by the shows in the planetarium dome and many got to see the planet Saturn close up through the impressive telescope kit the team had brought with them.
Our science department with the assistance of our sixth form students delivered engaging science experiments for families to enjoy; served refreshments and space themed snacks; assisted the Kielder staff with their workshops; and organised a raffle for staff and visitors to raise money for our in-school astronomy club.
Ms Pringle, Teacher of Science who organised the event said: “A massive thanks goes to those who attended the event; you were all a pleasure to host and we hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. Thanks to your generosity we raised an impressive £173! We would also like to thank Adam and Ben from Kielder Observatory for their creative and informative presentations.”
For any pupils interested in astronomy Ms Pringle offers a lunch and after school club on Thursday’s in room 11.
