Our Director of Art & Design, Mrs Yuill, hails originally from Burnley, Lancashire. She first moved to the North East in the late 1980s to study Fine Art at what was Sunderland Polytechnic. Three years later, she emerged with her 2:1 BA(hons) degree and a passion for photography.

A Postgraduate Certificate in Education course at Bretton Hall College followed, and off she went to Yorkshire to train to be a teacher in Sheffield at Notre Dame High and Silverdale School.

Finally, back home in Burnley after four years away, Mrs Yuill worked part time at St. Hilda’s Roman Catholic Girls School for a year before the call of the North East rang in her ears again.

So, in January 1997 she moved to work full time in Wallsend at Burnside College, working her way from art teacher to Second in Creative Arts and up to Head of Art.

It was when she got married that Mrs Yuill made the move to Amble and interviewed for an art teacher job here at JCSC. During her interview she described herself as “small, grey & grumpy”, but we catch her smiling frequently.

Mrs Yuill considers joining JCSC the best decision she ever made. She was promoted from art teacher to Director of Art and is now our Director of Art & Design with Art, DT, Food and Performing Arts under her wing.

Her Passions include her Patterdale Terrier Ruby, all things Trinny London, camping, stickers (she is the Sticker Queen), being a Happy Planner and meeting up with family to maintain her ‘Ecky Thumper’ accent.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is contagious, pass it on”.
