Sixth form students from James Calvert Spence College (JCSC) had an exciting opportunity to learn practical writing skills from award-winning writer for stage, screen and radio; Carina Rodney.
Carina visited the school last week to deliver one of four 50-minute sessions which are fully funded by the Royal Literary Fund.
The workshops are part of a project called Bridge which aims to provide techniques to help students write clearly and confidently in all contexts and situations; JCSC is the first school in Northumberland to benefit from the project.
Carina explains: “The sessions provide students with the building blocks required to produce effective writing for communication and writing for purpose, for example writing a letter of complaint or completing university applications. We also aim to assist students with their academic writing skills, looking at how to break down exam questions to effectively maximise their marks.”
She continues: “I’ve been really impressed by the level of engagement from the students, especially considering its their first week back of the academic year. I’m really looking forward to visiting the school again and delivering more sessions with the students.”
