Year 10 Work Experience Week: Learning Beyond the Classroom

This week, our Year 10 pupils have been out and about gaining valuable insight into the world of work through a range of local work experience placements. We have been delighted to hear positive feedback from employers and to see our pupils embracing new challenges and opportunities.

We have also been fortunate to retain a small number of pupils on site, where they have spent the week supporting various departments across the school and learning more about the many roles involved in keeping our school running smoothly.

Andre has spent his week working with our Facilities Department. Dressed professionally in full maintenance workwear, Andre has assisted with a variety of important tasks, including delivering packing crates to staff in preparation for our upcoming move, collecting rubbish, and learning how to use our in-house facilities ticketing and email systems. Pictured here, Andre is helping to retrieve footballs from our flat roofs with the assistance of Mr Gordon. His enthusiasm and willingness to get involved have been greatly appreciated by the team.

Jacob has been lending a hand in both the English Department and the Library. One of his key projects involved designing and printing labels for books that will be gifted to pupils ahead of the summer holidays. Jacob then meticulously labelled all 432 books and did a fantastic job of collating and displaying them in the library. He has also supported our Librarian, Mrs Johnson, with the significant task of organising and preparing the library for our move to the new school building.

Meanwhile, Maisie has been working within our Science and Drama Departments. She has supported younger pupils during lessons and assisted our Science Technician, Ms Oliver, in the preparation room. As part of her work experience, Maisie researched guidance on the safe disposal of chemicals that will not be moving to the new building. Pictured here, she is safely carrying out the neutralisation process prior to disposal under appropriate supervision.

Staff across the school have been incredibly impressed by the maturity, enthusiasm, and professionalism shown by all three pupils. They have demonstrated a genuine interest in the working world, shown a willingness to learn, and provided valuable support within their respective departments.

A huge well done to Andre, Jacob, and Maisie for representing themselves and the school so positively throughout the week.

We look forward to sharing more photographs and stories from the many Year 10 pupils who have been completing work experience placements with local businesses and organisations.
