We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news from our school community. Our talented pupils have achieved remarkable success in the Young Writers UK competition, with their creative work being published in the anthology “Stranger Sagas – Look Closer.”
A total of 16 pupils from our school were selected to have their short stories published, an outstanding accomplishment that reflects both their creativity and dedication to writing. Being chosen for publication in a national competition is no small feat, and each pupil should feel immensely proud of their achievement.
Among those selected, nine pupils are featured in the accompanying photographs: Jacob, Amelia, Porscha, Sophie, Shaun, Oliver, Aidan, Olivia and Angelo.
Each of these young writers has demonstrated imagination, originality, and a willingness to explore the unusual, all key elements of this year’s intriguing theme.
The Young Writers “Stranger Sagas” competition invites students across the UK to craft short stories inspired by mystery, intrigue, and the unexpected. The “Look Closer” theme encourages writers to go beyond the obvious, to uncover hidden details, explore unusual perspectives, and challenge readers to think differently about the world around them.
This competition is designed not only to inspire creativity but also to:
- Build confidence in writing
- Develop storytelling skills
- Encourage independent thinking
- Provide the opportunity for young voices to be heard and celebrated
Being selected for publication means that these pupils’ stories stood out among thousands of entries nationwide — a truly impressive achievement.
The published anthology showcases a wide range of imaginative responses, from mysterious encounters and unexpected twists to thought-provoking narratives that invite readers to “look closer” at everyday situations.
Our pupils embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, and their work highlights not only their talent but also their courage to experiment with new ideas and storytelling styles. It is wonderful to see our pupils flourish in opportunities like this.
We would also like to thank staff and families for their continued encouragement and support; achievements like these are truly a team effort.
We hope this accomplishment inspires even more pupils to get involved in creative writing in the future. Competitions like Young Writers provide a fantastic platform to showcase talent and build confidence, and we look forward to participating again.
Once again, congratulations to all 16 published pupils, and a special well done to those featured — Jacob, Amelia, Porscha, Sophie, Shaun, Oliver, Aidan, Olivia, and Angela.
