Our Year 5 and Year 6 students recently had the opportunity to learn and train with the Newcastle Rugby Foundation as part of The Greggs Tackling Health programme.
Over five weeks, students learned about healthy eating and lifestyle and also received coaching for tag-rugby from Newcastle Falcons.
Due to the timing of the course, some of the learning was initially done remotely.
Once all students were back in school, it was fantastic to see them running around on the South Avenue fields receiving direct fitness coaching and learning new skills.
Chris Ure, Community Development Officer at Newcastle Falcons, said: “I really enjoyed the short time at James Calvert Spence College, I was impressed with how well the children took to what was a completely new sport to them. The children showed so much effort and willingness to learn and are a credit to the school and teachers.”
