GB sprint hero James Dasalou paid a special visit to students at James Calvert Spence College, Amble this week to share his sporting story and training tips.

The athlete, who represented Great Britain at the Olympics in 2021 and 2016 and won gold in the 100 metres at the 2014 European Athletics Championships, visited South Avenue, delivering a special assembly to a captivated audience.

Students then met James in small class groups and asked him questions about how he got into running, how he felt when competing and what it’s like to win a gold medal.

James and the JCSC teachers were able to signpost students to local running and sports clubs and the athlete gave out some excellent advice to pupils searching for their own sporting passions.

Next, James coached the student groups through some circuits and shared some training techniques and tips with members of the JCSC Running Club.  Kimberley Bryce, Second in Vocational at James Calvert Spence College and one of the founding members of JCSC Running Club, said:

“This was a real high-energy visit from start to finish. James is a really friendly guy and the students threw themselves into the circuit training and asking all sorts of questions. It’s definitely a day we’ll all remember and it was great to see we have plenty of aspiring athletes in our midst!”
