COVID restrictions and lockdown meant that many regular school activities and events did not take place last year, so it’s been fantastic to see our Year 5 and 6 students splashing about in recent weeks.
Groups of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have joined Mrs Bryce, form tutors, our PE Apprentice and volunteers to enjoy water sport sessions at Druridge Bay Country Park.
At the lake, students participated in both kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.
Students learned to turn the kayak in a circle and move in different directions, which came in very handy when they got stuck in the reeds!
There was also a team building activity, with groups asked to create their own raft and they took part in races towards buoys using paddleboards, before jumping off the buoys.
Deputy Lead in Vocational Studies, Mrs Bryce, said: “Students have really enjoyed the visits to the lake and I’m so glad this activity has been able to take place this year. It’s a fantastic resource to have on our doorstep and it’s lovely to see everyone grow in confidence in the water, and most importantly, having fun.”
