James joined James Calvert Spence College as Headteacher in September 2024 and leads the staff team with overall responsibility for all aspects of school life. James is an experienced Headteacher having previously worked as a senior leader in three other schools including Head of School at QEHS in Hexham and as Principal of Excelsior Academy in Newcastle. James has taught English, drama and media over the last 27 years and is delivering the EPQ to sixth form learners at JCSC this year.
James is passionate about ensuring that school is a caring, safe, happy and positive environment so that all pupils fulfil their potential and enhance life chances through excellent achievements.
Outside of school, James enjoys film, theatre and music. He still has ambitions to be a world class DJ and also play snooker against Ronnie O’Sullivan at the Crucible.
